Helen has performed Poe and Helen Whitman in front of many audiences. Here are some of the reviews and comments from her fans:

Helen McKenna-Uff performed her one-person show, “Tell-Tale Poe”, for us on October 5, 2013. The show was the keynote presentation for our National Endowment for the Arts Big Read program, which featured the stories and poems of Edgar Allan Poe. I can’t say enough good things about her and her performance! From our first contact with her, she has been flexible, professional, and friendly. As a program planner, I very much appreciated her direct, clear, prompt communications. She had very few requests or requirements, and is one of the easiest presenters I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with.

Her transformation into Edgar Allan Poe is astonishing! “His” appearance is very well done. Helen’s depth of knowledge about Poe and her strict adherence to documented fact - rather than flights of speculation - lend her first-person performance a downright eerie believability. What really tops off the show, though, is her amazing talent as an actor. Of course, Poe deserves credit as the author, but her interpretations of his stories and poems bring them to life in ways that make the hair on the back of your neck stand right up. She intersperses the readings with Poe giving interesting facts about his life in such a way that you really do feel like he’s there. She handled the question and answer segment very well, sticking to facts and avoiding speculation while staying in character. People enjoyed the chance to have their pictures taken with Poe after the show!

We’ve heard nothing but rave reviews from those who attended, including one man who said “She was so good I didn't even know she wasn't a man playing Poe until later”. People are still talking about it, and coming to ask about Poe books and The Big Read because they saw the program or heard how good it was. I would not hesitate to recommend Helen and her Tell-Tale Poe show to anyone, and we would have her back in a heartbeat.
